Compare hosting against the website you intend to run. A small static page and a WordPress site have different operational needs.
Check the plan
- Supported software, HTTPS and the ability to use your own domain.
- Storage, bandwidth and resource limits, including what happens when a limit is reached.
- Backups, restore access, update responsibility and support channels.
- Data export, migration and cancellation terms.
- Any provider advertising, inactivity rules or restrictions on a free plan.
For WordPress
Check the current WordPress requirements with the host, including PHP, database support and HTTPS. Do not choose a plan only because an old directory called it free or inexpensive.
Before moving a live site, make a verified backup, test a separate copy and plan the DNS and email changes. Keep ownership of the domain account clear.
