An IP location result estimates where a network connection appears to originate. It does not identify a person’s home address.
Read the result cautiously
Geolocation databases can return a country, city and coordinates with an accuracy radius. MaxMind advises presenting the radius as a geographical area rather than a precise position.
Why a result can differ
- A VPN, proxy or company gateway can change the apparent location.
- A mobile connection may appear near the provider’s infrastructure.
- A reassigned address can take time to be reflected in a database.
Use IP information as one technical signal. Do not treat a city result as proof of someone’s identity or physical presence. This page does not collect your IP for a lookup or submit it to an external location service.
